A loop route that spends most of its time rolling across the hills of Slovenske gorice, with a few flat stretches in between. One of the highlights is crossing the Mura by ferry — a rare and memorable experience, made even better by the views over the river. The route then continues through the wine hills, where short climbs alternate with vineyard panoramas. Varied and lively, it works equally well as a relaxed day out or a proper road bike effort.

Šentilj in Slovenske gorice

Šentilj
The ride starts at TIC Šentilj, right on the border with Austria. The road heads first toward Sladki Vrh. The climb is gentle, gradually opening up views of Pohorje.
Mura Ferry
At Sladki Vrh, one of the route's real highlights awaits: the Mura ferry (Murfähre). One of the last of its kind in the area, it runs on river current alone — no engine. Crossing the Mura is a small adventure that takes you across to the Austrian side in the most pleasant way possible.
Austrian side
Flat roads through fields and patches of woodland lead to the small town of Mureck, known to Slovenians as Cmurek.
Back to Slovenia
Crossing back over the border, the wine hills return. The landscape settles into gentle waves, and the road gets playful again — short, punchy climbs giving way to quick descents.
Sveta Ana

Sveta Ana viewpoint
Passing through villages including Lokavec, the route arrives at Sveta Ana, where views open out across the vineyards and surrounding hillsides. A good place to stop, breathe, and take in the panorama.
Second half of the route
The route then takes us through Spodnji Gasteraj to Jurovski Dol. This charming village lies just over halfway along the route, making it an ideal place for a short break.

Jarenina
The final stretch is more relaxed, following a cycling path through Jarenina and past the Alfi Nipič Museum. Easy and enjoyable — just right for winding down a loop that brings you back into Šentilj.
The route doesn't end here, though. Šentilj is an excellent base for further exploration of Slovenske gorice — new roads, climbs, and views spread out in every direction, all worth coming back for.
