The cycling route follows the Logar Valley from its entrance all the way to the end of the road near the Rinka Waterfall. The Savinja River accompanies you for most of the journey, while the slopes of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps rise above the valley. The route climbs gently throughout, but is not particularly demanding, with a short gravel section adding a little variety along the way. During the summer, especially at weekends, the valley can get quite busy. For a more peaceful ride, we recommend visiting on weekdays and outside the peak season.
Points along the route
Parking Before the Valley Entrance
The tour starts at the car park just before the entrance to Logar Valley. For the first 300 metres, we ride along the main road before turning onto the paved road leading into the valley.
Entering Logar Valley
Beyond the Chapel of Christ the King, the road winds between meadows and gradually enters the forests of Logar Valley. The valley was shaped by a glacier during the last Ice Age, which carved out its broad, almost flat floor. Today, the Savinja River flows through it.
The Črna Spring and the Savinja
The road brings us close to the Savinja and the Črna Spring. The Savinja emerges in the upper part of the valley, after which part of its water disappears underground and resurfaces further downstream as the Črna, its second source.
Hotel Plesnik and Views of the Valley
At Hotel Plesnik, one of the finest views of the expansive Logar Valley opens up before us. The surrounding meadows are framed by the imposing peaks of Ojstrica, Planjava, Brana and Turska gora.
Gravel Section
For around one kilometre, the paved road gives way to a gravel track through the forest. The surface is relatively rough here, so wider tyres make for a more comfortable ride. The route soon rejoins the paved road.
Road towards the End of the Valley
The final section follows the paved road towards the head of Logar Valley. During the tourist season, traffic can be quite heavy, particularly at weekends, when many visitors drive towards the upper end of the valley.
Dom Planincev and Rinka Waterfall
The route ends at the bar below Rinka Waterfall. From here, it is approximately a 15-minute walk along a well-maintained trail to the waterfall. A small viewing platform, known as Eagle's Nest, is built into the slope right beside the waterfall.
We return along the same route, skipping the gravel section on the way back. As we descend, the valley gradually opens up before us, with views shifting from the steep mountain slopes back towards the meadows and the Savinja, until we reach the starting point.
