The route starts at the parking area in Ajdovščina, at the confluence of the Lokavšček stream and the Hubelj River. This peaceful, green area offers a sense of a natural oasis in the middle of the urban environment right from the start.
Napoleon Bridge
The historical highlight of the route. Built in the early 19th century, the bridge connects the two banks of the Vipava River. Although there is no direct evidence that it was built exclusively for the needs of Napoleon's army, it is often associated with his campaigns. Today, the bridge is one of Ajdovščina's most recognisable landmarks.

The return route takes us through the historic town centre, where you can see remains of the Roman town walls and characteristic architecture influenced by the Friulian style.

- Roman Walls of Ajdovščina (0 km from the start): The remains of the Roman fortress of Castra include several preserved towers and sections of the former walls. The fortress was built around 270 AD at the confluence of the Hubelj and Lokavšček rivers.
- Hubelj River (0 km from the start): The Hubelj is a torrential river flowing through Ajdovščina and one of the main tributaries of the Vipava. The town developed along the river, which also inspired its Roman name, Castrum ad Fluvium Frigidum.
- Napoleon Bridge (4 km from the start): Napoleon Bridge was built in the early 19th century and connects the two banks of the Vipava River. Although there is no direct evidence that it was constructed exclusively for Napoleon’s army, it is often associated with his military campaigns.
