Starting in central Maribor, this circular route follows the Drava River and the Zlatoličje hydropower canal to the edge of the Drava Plain before crossing the flatlands beneath the Pohorje hills and returning to the city. Quiet local roads alternate with well-maintained gravel sections, with little traffic and virtually no climbing. Over 30 kilometres, the route takes in the riverside promenade, the Drava’s riparian forests, Miklavška mlaka pond and the open fields around Maribor Airport.

We start the route at Glavni trg, from where we descend towards Lent, the oldest part of Maribor along the Drava River.
Lent
We continue east along the riverfront, passing the Water Tower. The Drava accompanies us all the way to Melje.
Zrkovci
In Zrkovci, views open up towards Pohorje on one side and the wine-growing area of Malečnik on the other. From here, we continue along a quieter road, mostly signposted as part of the Drava Bike cycling route.
Miklavška mlaka
Along the route lies Miklavška mlaka, a water reservoir in the forest between Miklavž and Skoke, fed by a relief channel. The pond is maintained by local anglers, and a rest area has been arranged beside it, making it a pleasant spot for a short break. From here, we continue along the route without following the Drava Bike signs.

Towards the Airport
A gravel section follows, passing a fish spawning ground on the Hočki potok, an important area for fish reproduction. The route then continues towards Maribor Airport.
Rogoza and Skoke
We continue along the gravel track beside the channel, passing Rogoza and Skoke. Edvard Rusjan Maribor Airport is nearby, so you may spot an aircraft taking off or landing above the fields. The airport is named after the Slovenian aviation pioneer who made his first flight in 1909.
Bohova and Razvanje
We make our way back towards the starting point across fields and along local roads.
We cross the Old Bridge and return to the starting point. In the surrounding area, you can enjoy a well-earned lunch or dinner, followed by a short walk or a ride through the city.
