The new cycling connection between Bled and Bohinj is a long-awaited addition for cyclists exploring the Julian Alps. The brand-new route links two of Slovenia’s most iconic lakes and mostly follows a cycle path separated from traffic, taking riders along the Sava Bohinjka River and through alpine villages, forests and meadows. During the warmer months, Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj are ideal for a refreshing swim during or after the ride.
Points along the route
Lesce
0 km

Lesce
The route starts at Lesce railway station, where you can leave your car in the nearby parking area. You can also reach the starting point by train, making this a particularly convenient option for the tour.

Cycle Route towards Bled
From Lesce, we quickly join the cycle route towards Bled.

Bled
4 km

Lake Bled
With its clear waters, picturesque island and castle perched above the lake, Lake Bled offers one of the most beautiful views along the route. Along this section, cyclists share the road with cars as there is no dedicated cycle path. Extra caution is advised, especially during the busy tourist season.

Continuing towards Bohinjska Bela
For a short section, we rejoin the main road before turning onto a cycle path towards Bohinjska Bela. A short climb follows, making this the only somewhat demanding section of the first half of the route.

Bohinjska Bela
8 km

Along the Sava Bohinjka
The route continues through stretches of forest, past meadows and across bridges, with the river never far away. In summer, this is one of the most pleasant sections of the ride, thanks to the shade and the cool air around the river.

Grmečica Waterfall
Grmečica Waterfall is one of the most beautiful natural spots along the route. Leave your bike behind and walk approximately 100 metres to reach the waterfall.

Bohinjska Bistrica
28 km

Bohinjska Bistrica
Bohinjska Bistrica is a good place to take a short break before tackling the final section towards Lake Bohinj. Just before reaching the lake, there is a natural spring beside the route where you can refill your water bottles.

Lake Bohinj
34 km

Ribčev Laz and Lake Bohinj
The final kilometres lead towards Ribčev Laz and Slovenia's largest natural lake. After riding through the Alpine valley, a refreshing swim in Lake Bohinj is the perfect way to cool off.

Return
We return to Lesce along the same route. Just before Bled, however, we make a short detour through Selo pri Bledu. The route follows a steep village road before rejoining the path along Lake Bled at Mlino and continuing back towards the starting point.

The tour ends where it began. After a full day of cycling, it is worth taking some time to enjoy the local cuisine. Bled, Bohinj and the surrounding area offer plenty of options for a good lunch or dinner. If time allows, we recommend staying in the region after the ride and experiencing it through its local food as well.
